Intended use

The KARVI Dental X-Ray Film Holder is intended for use by qualified dental professionals in intraoral radiography. It is not intended for use by patients or by untrained persons. Nothing on this website constitutes clinical advice.

Device classification and registration

KARVI is a Class A — non-sterile, non-measuring medical device. It is registered with the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) under registration number UIRMEI-Madur-TN/M/MD/024478.

The device is supplied non-sterile and is for single use only. It must not be autoclaved, re-sterilised or reused. Store at room temperature.

Intellectual property

Two distinct rights are referred to on this site and they are not the same thing. Two designs are registered. One patent application is pending. Both certificates issue from the Patent Office, Government of India, so the letterhead alone does not distinguish them.

Registered designs

The following designs are registered with the Indian Patent Office under the Designs Act, 2000 and the Designs Rules, 2001:

• Design 437663-001 — “Oral Radiographic Film Holder”, class 24-01, registered 18 November 2024; certificate issued 11 April 2025, in the names of Dr. Sudarshan. R and Dr. Pavithra. R.
• Design 454166-001 — “Dental X-Ray Film Holder”, class 24-01, registered 3 April 2025; certificate issued 17 July 2025, in the names of Dr. Sudarshan. R, Dr. Pavithra. R and Dr. N. Raj Vikram.

A design registration protects the visual appearance of an article — its shape and configuration. It is not a patent and confers no rights over the function, working or method of the device. Copyright in a registered design subsists for ten years from the date of registration and may, under the terms of the Act and Rules, be extended by a further five years.

Patent application

A patent application titled “Bite Teeth Film Holder Assembly” was filed at the Indian Patent Office on 27 November 2025 under application number 202541118188.

This application is pending. A patent has not been granted, and references to “patent applied for” on this site should not be read as indicating a granted patent. The registered designs listed above do not make the device patented.

Performance and claims

Statements about positioning, comfort and image quality describe the design intent of the device. Actual results depend on operator technique, equipment, film or sensor type, and individual patient anatomy.

Any survey figures published on this site come from concept testing — structured feedback from clinicians after hands-on use. Concept testing measures practitioner opinion. It is not a controlled clinical trial and does not establish diagnostic accuracy, retake rates or clinical outcomes.

Product images

Photographs on this site show the device in real use and during development. Prototypes and pre-production units may appear and can differ from current production stock.
